the primary program at other options is the friends food pantry which provides nutrient dense food, nutrition formula, and toiletries to over 1,064 adults and children able to shop weekly. it is estimated that other options provides 21 meals(7 breakfast, 7 lunch, 7 dinners) per client number. these men, women, and children are living below the poverty level. at least one member of the family lives with hiv or aids. the food pantry shoppers are pre-qualified by other agencies in the hiv and aids fields. the majority of our food is purchased with grant funds at a bulk rate from the oklahoma regional food bank. other options also relies on businesses, churches, and private individuals to donate additional food items that we are not able to obtain from the food bank. funding requirements are extensive in order for other options to be able to provide such a needed and critical service to the aforementioned target population. in sum, the cost of operating the friends food pantry is approximately $5,500 a month.the friends food pantry at other options is the only free food source in the 405 and 580 area codes for the hiv population in oklahoma. the number of people living with hiv/aids in oklahoma is growing significantly which continually places a burden on other options to enhance its' funding sources.other options recognizes that this target population of children, youth, men, and women with hiv disease typically require a higher intake of proteins and complex carbohydrates as well as special formulas for babies and adults in trauma. this target population is unable to obtain this higher content food because of income restrictions and other pressing needs. other options proposes to increase our buying ability to offset the pressing needs of children and adults and to supplement with extra food sources.office hoursmonday - saturday9:00am - 4:00amfor more information, please call.
